On May 6 through 17 the Lithuanian Air Force is conducting Exercises Vigilant Falcon 2024 and Astral Knight in areas adjacent to Kaunas and Šiauliai. Staff of the Air Force command headquarters, Air Base, Air Defence Battalion, Airspace Surveillance and Control Command and Armament and Equipment Repair Depot will be rehearsing to execute different types of defensive tasks.
Smoke and sound training ammunition and training explosives will be used over the exercise period of time, equipment traffic will be heavier on the roads, as well as of military aircraft and NATO Air Policing fighter jets in the sky round the clock (low altitude tasks on May 9-11 in Kaunas administrative district and in Šiauliai on May 13-15).
Lithuanian Air Force military personnel will train together with State Border Guard officers, air navigation specialists, members of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union, U.S. Air Force 31st Fighter Wing, U.S. Air Force 20th Attack Squadron, and the Marine Air Control Squadron 24.
Lithuanian residents need not be concerned and should carry on with their routines; it is just military drills without any actual threat.
