A U.S. delegation visited Exercise Iron Sword 2014

On November 10 United States Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment Katherine Hammack, Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army in Europe Major General Walter E. Piatt and a delegation visited Exercise Iron Sword 2014 at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area.


The high guests were met by Officer Scheduling Exercise Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika. The delegation was briefed on the aim and objectives of the multinational exercise, toured its infrastructure and exercise sites, where they met with U.S and other nations soldiers taking part in the exercise and observed them in action.

Exercise Iron Sword 2014 running in Lithuania on November 2-14 involves roughly 2.5 thousand participants from 9 NATO member states and over 300 military vehicles of various roles. The exercise trains interoperability in combined NATO units, coordination of actions, and readiness to complete defensive and offensive operations. Exercise Iron Sword has been planned to expand and incorporate increasingly more NATO and partner states.
