On August 10-12 Commander of the Portuguese Air Force General Manuel Texeira Rolo, Commander of the Portuguese Army General Frederico Jose Rovisco Duarte, Chief of the Joint Staff Rear Admiral José Domingos Pereira da Cunha, and an accompanying Portuguese delegation, will on a formal visit to Lithuania. The guests will meet with Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Brigadier General Valdemaras Rupšys and Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Colonel Audronis Navickas.
During the visit Commander of the Portuguese Army General F. J. R. Duarte will view training conditions in Rukla of the troops with the 4th Artillery Battalion deployed to Lithuaniaconduct a visit to the international Exercise Flaming Thunder 2016 underway at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area (Pabradė), and meet with Portugal's troops training in the exercise and observe their performance.
Portugal has been sending military personnel to train alongside Lithuanian troops in Lithuania for several years in a row. A rotational Portuguese company was deployed in Lithuania on April-June 2015 as part of NATO Readiness Action Plan to attend Exercise Iron Wolf together with soldiers of Lithuania and other NATO allies.
Commander of the Portuguese Air Force General M. T. Rolo will conduct a visit to the Airspace Control Centre of the Air Surveillance and Control Command in Karmėlava and meet with Portuguese soldiers conducting the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission from the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai.
On August 11 the delegation of the Portuguese Generals will take part in DV and Media Day of Exercise Flaming Thunder 2016.
