28th anniversary of cooperation with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard

On April 27 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen  Valdemaras Rupšys discussed the 28th anniversary of cooperation with Acting Adjutant General Major General Mark Schindler, Pennsylvania Army National Guard (PANG), via a video call.   

“As we are celebrating the longstanding cooperation of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, we have discussed today further possibilities to enhance it.  We mutually value quality. I can  only express my delight about the closeness of cooperation that we have in the areas of responsibility of not only the National Defence Volunteer Force but also the Land Force, Air Force, Training and Doctrine Command,” Lt Gen  Valdemaras Rupšys said during the call.

The leaders also discussed the current security situation, exchanged assessments of the COVID-19 impact on military activity, adaptation of military forces to it, and progress with vaccination.  The cooperation is expected to be reactivated when military personnel has been vaccinated and travel possible again.  

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard renders comprehensive assistance in the UH-60 Black Hawk acquisition project. Lithuanian pilots are undergoing training for operation of  UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters that Lithuania is procuring.    

The Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard have been in cooperation under the State Partnership Program for 25 years now. Over the quarter of decade numerous joint events have been held, starting with experience exchange at training, workshops, meetings, and exercises, to joint participation in the multinational operation in Afghanistan in 2009-2012.

The U.S. is Lithuania’s strategic partner and key ally for the Baltic security that actively contributes to the assurance measures in the Baltic states for strengthening security and stability in the region.
