October 25-30, tactical mission as a part of permission training before deployment to Afghanistan will be held at King Mindaugas Motorised Infantry Battalion.
In a week-long training period staff of the ISAF Lithuanian-led PRT (PRT-13) trains operational planning, drafting and delivering orders to subunits.
During the exercise soldiers drill standard procedures before exercise to be held at Gen Jonas Žemaitis Warfare Training Centre (Nemenčinė) on November 2-5. The exercise will be conducted via Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation System (JCATS) capable of imitating a spectrum of situations troops may encounter in the mission region.
PRT-13 based on King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion's troops under the command of Maj Nerijus Stankevičius (Mindaugas Battalion) will take over the mission from PRT-12 in May 2011. A considerable part of military personnel on training have experience of multinational missions from the Balkan region, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team of Ghor province is a part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Lithuania established a PRT in Ghor in summer of 2005. The fundamental mission of PRT is helping Government of Afghanistan to extend its authority in Afghanistan, ensure security and provide conditions for provincial reconstruction.
