December 13, 20.10 p.m. Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre of the Lithuanian Naval Force received a message from Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Gothenburg (Sweden) that a crew member of SCHOUWENBANK ship sailing the Baltic Sea in the territorial waters of Sweden was in need of medical consultations. LNF Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre provided an intermediate's support in rendering the required assistance: officer on duty of LNF Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre received the ship's message and gave telephone number of Klaipėda Seamen's Hospital Emergency Room.

 

At 200.43 p.m. doctor on call of emergency room of Klaipėda Seamen's Hospital affirmed that a telephone contact was established with the SCHOUWENBANK ship. Doctor of the hospital provided medical consultation and recommendations on treatment.

 

Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, unit of the Lithuanian Naval Force, was established on the 1st of January, 2009. Tasks of the centre are organisation, coordination and supervision of search and rescue tasks in SAREX area, and organisation, coordination and supervision of oil and hazardous materials spill and other pollution incidents elimination in a sea region.
