On March 2 the Lithuanian Domestic Support Forces have been deployed to support National Public Health Centre units conducting inspection and registration of passengers from COVID-19-stricken areas at airports of Vilnius, Kaunas, and Palanga, as well as in the central and the container terminals of the Klaipėda Seaport.
The task will be carried out by soldiers of the National Defence Volunteer Force 8th Territorial Unit (Didžioji Kova Military District, Vilnius), 2nd Territorial Unit (Darius and Girėnas Military District, Kaunas), and 3rd Territorial Unit (Žemaičiai Military District, Klaipėda) assigned to the Domestic Support Forces. The soldiers have received instructions from the Lithuanian Armed Forces Military Medical Service personnel and personal protection gear before deploying.
35 soldiers is planned to be a standing team strength to be on duty and work with arriving passengers in all four sites.
Soldiers will be helping the National Public Health Centre employees to instruct passengers, collect contact information, and quarantine if necessary. The duty starts as of today with no end term set.
