Professional military service soldier of Rukla Garrison of the Lithuanian Armed Forces has tested positive for the coronavirus. The soldier is feeling well and is currently isolating at home. It is the first COVID-19 case among military personnel of Lithuania, two civilian employees working with the Lithuanian Armed Forces tested positive earlier.
The soldier visited his service place on March 27, the test was carried out on April 1. The test came back positive to the soldier's family member earlier. All colleagues who could have had close contact with the soldier have been warned to isolate for 14 days and will be tested in a short while. The soldier did not have contacts with the Continuous Mandatory Initial Military Service conscripts serving in Rukla.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces continues to uphold the recommended preventive and health protection measures to minimise risks to the health of military personnel.
However, even the first cases of COVID-19 do not prevent the Lithuanian Armed Forces from maintaining readiness to carry out its mission and sparing no effort in assisting the state-wide response to the spread of the coronavirus.
In total, over 150 soldiers from across the Lithuanian Armed Forces activated according to the domestic support tasks plan are currently assisting civilian institutions in their counter-COVID-19 epidemic efforts.
