November 25, a presentation sitting of the European Union's Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region was held at the Headquarters of the Lithuanian Navy (LITHNAVY) in Klaipėda on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The session was attended by the 13th Priority Area Coordinator of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region Bjarke Wiehe Bøtcher (Denmark), representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Communication, Ministry of Environmental Protection and others as well as subordinate institutions.

 

In the sitting announcements related to the 13th Priority Area of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and projects, development of a Lithuanian integrated maritime surveillance system, involvement of LITHNAVY in regional maritime surveillance integration projects and participation of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior in regional maritime surveillance integration projects. Maritime Surveillance System installed at the LITHNAVY Command and Control Centre was presented to the participants of the session.

 

Later on the session was relocated from LITHNAVY Sea and Coastal Surveillance Service to Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, Klaipėda Science and Technology Park and Maritime Safety Administration.

 

The 13th Priority Area of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is aspiration to become a leading region in maritime safety and security.

 

The EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is the first macro-regional strategy to cover all the interested states in the region - Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden. The Strategy is aimed at making the Baltic region ecologically sustained, thriving, attractive and accessible as well as secure and reliable. The Strategy is delivered as a communiqué and Action Plan providing 15 priority areas, a number of horizontal actions and approximately 90 flagship projects instrumental to achieve the aims of the Strategy and including energy, transport, environmental protection, innovations, scientific research, crime reduction, education, tourism, and other areas.
