On March 21-22 Brigadier General Ian Mortimer, Commander of the 20th Armoured Infantry Brigade of the British Army and Land Component of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force 17 (VJTF 17) paid a visit to the Lithuanian Land Force.
At a meeting in Vilnius Commander Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika and Brigadier General I. Mortimer discussed cooperation while fulfilling common tasks. Staff officers of the Lithuanian Land Force HQ briefed the British General on the progress of Lithuanian soldiers' integration into the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force.
During the visit BG I. Mortimer also met with Commander of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf Colonel Mindaugas Steponavičius in Rukla.
In 2017 a company assigned to the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion, Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf, will enter standby for the VJTF as part of its land component under the command of BG I.Mortimer. The Lithuanian infantry company will be completing tasks in composition of a Danish Army Battalion, its logistical provision will be ensured by a National Support Element. Military personnel of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf have already begun training for the standby.
