October 13-15, Commander Lithuanian Land Force Maj Gen Jonas Vytautas Žukas participated in the 18th annual European Land Force Commanders' conference organised by the US Army Europe and Land Force of Romania in Sibiu, Romania. This year the conference was based on the theme of international training as a tool of establishing international partnership. The event was attended by Land Force Commanders of NATO and Partnership for Peace (PfP) countries.
In the event Land Force Commanders shared experience of identifying needs of national land forces while fulfilling international commitments, addressed the use of multinational exercises for training national units from brigade up to battalion's size for country's defence and tasks of international projects alike. They also discussed the modes in which lessons learned in multinational training are integrated and invoked while conducting international operations, more efficient ways of making use of international exercise that Land Force Commanders could employ to for developing possible partnership programmes and exploiting them in real operations.
Lithuanian Land Force is the most numerous branch of the national armed forces composed of the motorised Infantry Brigade „Iron Wolf", Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion and National Defence Volunteer Force. Lithuanian Land Force employs around 3500 military and civilians and over 4700 volunteers.
