On March 6 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas met with Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania HE Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi and Defence Attaché of Ukraine Colonel Oleksandr Koberskyi at the Chief of Defence's Office to discuss the situation in Eastern Ukraine and Eastern Europe and prospects for military cooperation.


Chief of Defence reiterated to V. Yatsenkivskyi the Lithuanian Armed Forces' resolve to continue actively supporting Ukraine's defence reform by sending military advisors and instructors to Ukraine.


Ambassador V. Yatsenkivskyi thanked LT Gen J.V.Žukas on behalf of Chief of the General Staff (Chief of Defence of Ukraine) General Viktor Muzhenko for the organisation of the Ukrainian Chief of Defence's visit in November and expressed appreciation of the cooperation of Lithuanian and Ukrainian military personnel in Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan. Ambassador also personally thanked to the Lithuanian Armed Forces for the help by organising the charity concert "Together until victory" held on January 13 where over EUR 130 thousand of charity was raised.


"I am personally touched by such solidarity and support to state nation from Lithuanian people and the Lithuanian Armed Forces. I will never forget it. My people will never forget it," Ambassador of Ukraine said.


The guests also was interested in the service of Ukrainian soldiers assigned to the tri-national Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian brigade LITPOLUKRBRIG and how they were viewed by their colleagues.

Lithuania supports independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine from the beginning of the Russian military aggression, and provides all kinds of possible and legally permissible assistance, including military.


Lithuania donated to Ukraine components of weaponry and ammunition, provides medical care and post-treatment care for injured Ukrainian soldiers in Lithuania. Lithuania provides support to the studies of Ukrainian officers and NCOs at military education institutions of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL). Alongside other NATO allies Lithuanians participate in a programme of training regular ground units of Ukraine.
